Sound like you?
Michele, single mom of two teens was struggling to provide them with everything that they need, not getting the support from the other co-parent and she felt alone. They were both working but she was absolutely overwhelmed with her son in middle school and daughter in high school. The oldest had some significant challenges with her mental health and learning and needed a lot of her attention yet her son was started to withdraw and get moody and irritable. The voices were getting raised at home with both parents trying to do the best they could but needed to find a path...a plan to get their family back on track.
Michele and I worked together initially to find a way to care for herself, then worked with her to develop a "reset plan" for she and her family to start shifting the dynamics that had taken ahold of them over the past couple years.
We connected every other week to review and refine her action steps, I provided strategies for her to use with her kids and most importantly for her to have an understanding of her different kids develop and WHY they were behaving a certain way so that she could begin to know the shifts in her way of being with her kids. She now has a handle on:
- HOW to talk with her kids
- HOW to manage her own frustrations
.....and has an amazing connection with both her teenage daughter and tween son!
"I really liked how Therese listened to my problems and helped me come up with concrete ways of improving communication and connection with my tween. I also found very valuable the scripts or language that she gave me to use in particular situations. I also appreciated the simple, do-able changed that I can make in the family routine. Now, I feel like I have the tools to model positive intentional communication with my daughter."

The Power of Parent Coaching | Benefits and Rewards and How it Differs from Psychotherapy
What is parent coaching?
-
Professional parent coaching provides psychoeducation and practical strategies.
-
It’s directive, goal-oriented, and typically lasts 1-6 months.
-
It focuses on introducing and discussing new parenting strategies, offering support, and devising plans to implement them.
"I can teach you any parenting strategy and we can follow any parenting book but I believe the BEST parenting "skill" is right inside of you....the connection you have with your tween or teen and the relationship you have with them is their foundation in life....
Let's build that together"
Tess Connolly, LCSW
